Last week, the featherweight champion and leader of the weight-for-pound ranking José Aldo opened fire on the exclusive agreement in the supply of sports equipment between UFC and Reebok, triggering harsh criticism of the recently signed million-dollar contract, which he classified as “shit”. Aldo's words, however, did not go unnoticed by president Dana White's radar, who responded to the Brazilian, ensuring that he is receiving an even larger amount from another personal sponsor thanks to a proposal from Reebok.

“Reebok went after the José Aldo in a very aggressive way and Venum (manauara's sporting equipment sponsor in recent years) said: 'You're not going to take Aldo'. And then Venum started paying extra to maintain the José Aldo with them”, said Dana, during this Wednesday’s (03) edition of “UFC Tonight”, the organization’s official newspaper on North American TV.

In addition, Dana also countered another statement from Aldo, who compared the contract between the UFC and Reebok with that of other important leagues, such as the NFL or the NBA, and called for the creation of a class entity to represent the fighters. “The UFC is not making the same income as the NFL and NBA. And this is the first deal we've done with a big sportswear company like Reebok. You know, the fighters aren't being treated well? They're keeping all the money. Fighters get paid every time they fight. Every time they step into the Octagon, they will still be paid by Reebok and will still be able to continue with their sponsors,” he concluded.

The controversial contract between Reebok and UFC, which has divided opinions among the biggest names in the organization, comes into force just before the most important fight of the UFC's career. José Aldo. Valid from July, the contract, which provides for the standardization of uniforms and restrictions on the use of personal sponsors within the octagon, will debut at UFC 189, which features a duel between Aldo and the Irishman Conor McGregor in the main fight.
