Daniel Cormier, who last Saturday (23) was crowned the new UFC light heavyweight champion, guaranteed that he will not follow the path of his predecessor, Jon Jones, and will represent MMA well to the public.

Cormier won the title with a submission Anthony Johnson in the third round of the main fight of UFC 187, in Las Vegas (USA). The belt was vacant, as Jones was removed from his post after being involved in a controversial traffic accident and fleeing without providing assistance to the victim.

In an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast, Cormier said: “I believe I will represent this sport in the best way possible. I'm not going to do anything stupid, I'm not going to get in trouble. I will live my life the right way and I will be a champion who will inspire children,” he said.

Even though the comment was a dig at Jones, Cormier acknowledged that his fight against Johnson showed how strong the former champion is. Jones and Cormier faced each other in January of this year, with the former winning by decision.

“I think Saturday showed how special the boy is if he has everything in order. It's crazy to think that he defeated me and I defeated Anthony Johnson. I want to compete against him and I hope he recovers so we can fight again”, said the new champion.
