After more than a year hoping to compete for the UFC middleweight belt, Vitor belfort is finally close to facing the champion Chris Weidman. The long-awaited title fight will take place on May 23, at UFC 187, and Belfort is focused on not only winning the belt, but also on making history in the 84 kg division.

The fight was originally scheduled for May 2014, but Belfort was unable to fight due to the ban on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). In a telephone press conference to promote the fight, the Brazilian was asked about what he believes the fight would have been like if it had happened last year. “The 'if' is not part of my vocabulary. I focus on the facts and know that this will be the best fight in the history of the middleweight division. It’s going to be very exciting”, commented the “Phenomenon”.
Even though he hasn't stepped into the Octagon since November 2013, Belfort assured that he hasn't let the downtime affect him. “I just thought about training and keeping my mind focused. I focused on what I could do rather than what I couldn’t, so I tried to improve,” he noted. “I just want to enjoy the moment, live in the moment, and enjoy what I do. This is how I fight and how I manage to evolve over many years in the sport. Everything is a matter of the moment, so you have to take advantage of the moment and enjoy it”, he concluded.
