Manny Pacquiao could be punished by the Nevada Athletic Commission for hiding a shoulder injury before his fight against Floyd Mayweather, last Saturday (2), in Las Vegas, in the United States.

The Filipino boxer, defeated in the “Fight of the Century” in the judges' decision, did not reveal the injury in the mandatory forms that athletes must fill out in order to receive a license to fight in the US state of Nevada.

The document says that “all information must be true and correct, under penalty of perjury.” According to Nevada state law, a person who commits perjury can face one to four years in prison and a fine of US$5 (approximately R$15). Additionally, Pacquiao could be fined and suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Shortly before the official weigh-in, on the eve of the fight, Pacquiao and his team filled out the document from the Nevada Commission, a North American government body, which asks several questions regarding the fighter's health, including a very specific one regarding “injuries to the shoulder, elbows, and hands that need to be examined or evaluated.” Pacquiao responded negatively. Shortly after the fight, it was revealed that “PacMan” had fought with an injury, which will require surgery.

“It’s not that he didn’t fully fill out the questionnaire, but rather that he wasn’t honest and didn’t disclose to us that he had a shoulder injury,” explained Nevada Commission Executive Director Bob Bennett.

Even in the face of controversy, the boxing world lives in anticipation of a possible rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao, a fact raised by the North American recently. Second Mayweather, the fight could be repeated next year, after the Filipino recovered from surgery that should be carried out this week.
