Almost two months after defeating Anthony Pettis and win the UFC lightweight belt, Rafael dos Anjos is already planning his first title defense. The Brazilian believes he will be ready to fight again in the last half of the year, when he predicts he will be in full condition to step into the Octagon.

Dos Anjos is recovering from nose and knee surgeries performed shortly after his victory at UFC 185 in March. Precisely for this reason, the new champion only wants to return to training when he is 100% physically.

“The doctor told me that I should return to training in three months. So far, 45 days have passed since the injury, and this kind of injury is kind of difficult. I still feel my knee and I can't train. I'm hyperactive and I love training so I'm getting impatient. But I need to be patient, because I don't want to start my training at 80, 90%. I want to train at my 100%, so I think I should be ready to fight at the end of October or beginning of November”, projected Dos Anjos, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

Despite expressing his eagerness to return to the Octagon, the lightweight champion sees positives in his time away, especially after a busy year in 2014. “I can't wait to start training. I just had nose surgery and I still experience some bleeding. But I'm recovering, and no one wants to get back to training more than me. I'm looking forward to defending my title, but I fought several times last year. There were five fights in 11 months. I trained with injuries and passed the point. Now, I need a normal life, with my family,” he said.
