The information was passed on by the fighter's manager, Ali Abel-Aziz, to the program “UFC Tonight”, on the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”. The Brazilian tore the medial collateral ligament in his right knee shortly before the fight that made him famous, and, despite the seriousness of the incident, he will not need to undergo surgery.
According to the businessman, who had suggested that Dos Anjos give up the fight, only physiotherapy sessions will be necessary for recovery. However, the champion must be able to return to training with full intensity only within a period of three months.
Additionally, Dos Anjos also had to deal with a problem with his nose, which profoundly affected his breathing. According to Abdel-Aziz, the Brazilian was unable to draw air with his right nostril and was only able to use around 70% of the capacity of his left.
Despite all the problems, Dos Anjos managed to dominate the five rounds of the fight against Pettis, becoming the first Brazilian to win the UFC lightweight title. His first opponent as champion must come out of the fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Donald Cerrone, who will face each other on May 23 at UFC 187.
