the american Jon Jones had his first court hearing this Tuesday (28). A few hours after leave prison in the city of Albuquerque, the UFC light heavyweight champion spent around 20 minutes in court. The next hearing in the case does not yet have a stipulated date and will only happen if the prosecutor decides to continue the case and take it to a popular jury, which will probably happen.

The case

Jon Jones was involved in a traffic accident with three cars last Sunday and fled the scene without providing assistance. The victim was a 20-year-old woman who is pregnant. To complicate the fighter's situation, the police found traces of marijuana and a pipe to use the drug in the car driven by the UFC champion.

Fight scheduled

Jon Jones is scheduled to defend the light heavyweight belt against his compatriot Anthony Johnson at UFC 187, an event scheduled for May 23, in Las Vegas. The confrontation, so far, is confirmed, but Ultimate is expected to comment on the case this Tuesday.

Jon Jones Problems

This is not the first time that Jon Jones gets involved in trouble outside the UFC. In 2012, the fighter was tried and lost his license for drunk driving and hit a post. In 2014, the champion was caught in a drug test for cocaine use. As the test was carried out outside the competition period, 'Bones', as he is known, was not suspended and entered rehabilitation.
