Rio's violence claimed another victim this Christmas. Jiu-jitsu black belt Marco Jara was shot dead on Estrada da Pedra, in Santa Cruz, West Zone of Rio.
According to the police, Jara and his American friend Brent Garret, who was also shot, were heading to Paraty, where they would spend Christmas. They stopped the Land Rover they were driving to ask for directions, when they were approached by two men who announced the robbery.
The police suspect that the American reacted and was thrown out of the car with a shot in the stomach. The Brazilian followed with the robbers and was found hours later, dead, near the Sapo favela.
Marco Jará was awarded a black belt in jiu-jitsu by Joe Moreira and has trained beasts such as Mirko Cro Cop and Mike Tyson. The fighter lived outside Brazil for a few years.
Marco Jara's body will be buried tomorrow (26) at the São João Batista cemetery, in the Botafogo neighborhood.
