Se Rafael dos Anjos already had a surprising performance against Anthony Pettis in March, when he won the UFC lightweight belt, imagine now that the Brazilian will start breathing without any major difficulties. This is because, taking advantage of the time off after winning the title in the Octagon, Rafael underwent surgery to remove “spongy flesh” on the walls of his nasal cavities that greatly impeded his breathing.

Known as “Hypertrophy of the turbinates (or “Hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates”), this is a very common condition in which the turbinates are exaggerated in size and obstruct the passage of air during inhalation. During surgery, the excess is removed, resulting in an improvement in the patient's breathing capacity.
Rafael himself registered the operation through his official profile on Facebook. The champion of the under-70 kg division took the opportunity to highlight the improvement in performance expected from now on. “Preparing for my nose surgery. Giving a upgrade in the machine from (an engine) V6 (with six cylinders) to a V8 (with eight cylinders, more powerful), now the gas will double”, wrote the fighter, along with a photo of himself in the hospital.
At 30, Rafael dos Anjos has a professional record of 24 wins and seven losses. The Brazilian still doesn't have a date set for his first title defense, but it is expected that he will face the winner of the fight between Donald Cerrone e Khabib Nurmagomedov, scheduled for May 23rd.
