In recent weeks, because of the initiative of a betting site, the MMA community discussed whether the champion Ronda Rousey could or could not face a man in a fight. Many athletes commented on the topic, and even Ronda gave her opinion on the matter, but none of them were as incisive as Don Frye. Champion of the UFC 8 and UFC 11.5 one-night tournament, Frye considered the hypothesis ridiculous and made it clear that Rousey should worry about another name: Chris Cyborg.

“Oh my God, this is so ridiculous. Why does she keep complaining... what's the name of that fighter she's always complaining about? Cyborg. Tell her to shut up and fight Cyborg. I don't want to see her talking about fighting a man until she's fought Cyborg. And don't insist that she undergo anti-doping tests or make weight for nothing. Shut the f*** up and fight this woman like real fighters do. Don’t care about the rules, this or that”, said Frye, in an interview with “Submission Radio”.

Now 49 years old, Don Frye was one of the pioneers of the UFC, in the days when the term MMA had not even been coined to refer to the mix of martial arts. A participant in the organization's events in 1996, and champion of the eighth championship and the second edition of “Ultimate Ultimate”, Frye also had a career in the now defunct Japanese event PRIDE and retired in 2011 with a record of 20 wins, nine losses, one draw and a fight without result.

Despite Frye's criticisms, Ronda Rousey returns to the Octagon on August 1st, but on the other side of the cage won't be Chris Cyborg or even a male athlete. The champion's opponent in the main fight of UFC 190, scheduled for the HSBC Arena, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), will be the undefeated Brazilian challenger Beth Pitbull.
