McGregor, on confusion: 'Aldo winked and I got the belt. In the fight it will be the same'

Even UFC president, Dana White, was astonished at the Irishman's quickness to 'steal' the Brazilian's belt

The last day of the world tour to promote the main fight of UFC 189, last Tuesday (March 31), was marked by great confusion involving José Aldo e Conor McGregor. In front of the inflamed crowd in Dublin, Ireland, McGregor made fun of take advantage of a moment of Aldo's distraction and take his belt, which left the Brazilian furious.

Shortly after the incident, Aldo gave his view on the episode and promised to “crush” his Irish rival. Now, it was McGregor's turn to give his opinion on the matter, and he believes that the controversy ended up being the perfect analogy of what will actually happen in the fight between the two.

“He winked and I took the belt. In the fight it will be the same: you blink and the next thing you see is the belt being tied around my waist. I’m fast”, said the Irishman, in an interview with the UFC’s official website.

UFC president, Dana White, was also surprised by McGregor's agility, as, to get the belt, the Irishman had to get in front of him. “Jesus Christ, the kid is fast. How the hell did he manage to get past me and get the belt so quickly? He passed us all. He was faster than I expected. Thank God he was grabbing the belt, and not José”, said the leader.

the fight between José Aldo e Conor McGregor will be the main attraction of UFC 189, an event that will take place on July 11th in the city of Las Vegas, in the United States. Aldo has been champion of the featherweight division since the category was created in the UFC in early 2011, and has already defended his belt seven times. McGregor debuted in the UFC in 2013 and won all five of his fights in the Octagon so far, four of which were by knockout and one by judges' decision.
