Referee errors are not uncommon in sport and often drive athletes and their teams crazy, but what happened at the ProFC 57 Russian MMA event was a rather extreme reaction on the part of those who felt they had been harmed by the judges. After a disputed defeat of former middleweight champion Shamil Abdulkhalikov, his coaches invaded the cage, attacked their opponent Mikhail Kolobegov and started what became a general fight.
It all started after the third round. After 15 minutes of fighting, Abdulkhalikov already considered himself the winner and awaited the official announcement with the certainty of having successfully defended his title. However, in a controversial decision, the referees considered the fight a draw and declared that there would be an extra round. In the fourth and decisive round, the former champion ended up being knocked out with a flying knee. The result angered Shamil's coaches and they jumped over the cage to attack Kolobegov. From then on, more and more people got involved in the confusion, which reached 20 people in the cage, between brawlers and the “give it up gang”.
