UFC welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler was not happy with the way José Aldo, owner of the featherweight belt, has been treated by fans during the world tour to promote UFC 189. The Brazilian is often the target of provocations and jokes from his opponent, Conor McGregor, which often received support and a positive response from the fans present.

Lawler stated that such treatment is not fair, as the Brazilian has a long and successful career in the sport. “This guy only has one defeat and he has fought the best of the best many, many times. And the fans aren't showing much respect. This guy has already shown a lot of heart and effort, and people don't realize he's been doing this his whole life. He's a quiet guy, but he goes out there, fights and wins. I think they should show more respect”, criticized Lawler, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
