UFC FN 62: Durinho, Pepey and Léo Santos shine on the main card with beautiful submissions

Jiu-jitsu was duly represented in the first fights on the main card of UFC Fight Night 62, an event held at the Maracanãzinho gym, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

The black belts Geoffrey Pepey, Gilbert Durinho and Leonardo Santos won their fights using gentle art, which drove the crowd in the Rio arena crazy. In addition to them, Amanda nunes He also won in stunning fashion, this time by technical knockout.

Pepey, runner-up of TUF Brasil 1, opened the main card with a beautiful submission against André Fili, proving once again its evolution in recent years.

Durinho, pupil of Vitor belfort and jiu-jitsu coach of “Fenômeno”, suffered at the hands of the debutant Alex Cowboy, but took a arm lock out of the hat in the final minute of the fight to achieve the turnaround and another victory in his career. Already Leo Santos, winner of the second edition of reality show in Brazil he had little work to do on the ground to win with a rear naked choke and maintain his unbeaten record in the Octagon.

Pepey shines again and submits Fili in the first round

Geoffrey Pepey once again proved its evolution with a devastating victory against the tough André Fili, in a fight that opened the main card of UFC Fight Night 62.

The TUF Brazil 1 runner-up put his dangerous jiu-jitsu into practice and quickly caught Fili, pulling the fight into his guard. The North American, training partner of names like TJ Dillashaw, Chad Mendes e Urijah faber, tried to resist for a few moments, but Pepey he tightened his position even more and forced his opponent to hit.

It was the third consecutive victory for Pepey, the second being by submission and the other by knockout. Fili suffered the third defeat of his career, the second in the last three fights.

Belfort's pupil suffers, but finishes at the end and remains unbeaten

Favorite to win the second fight on the main card of the night, Gilbert Durinho proved this position by defeating Alex Cowboy and maintain his unbeaten record in professional MMA. However, you're wrong if you think your life was easy inside the Octagon.

Even though he accepted the fight at the last minute after an injury to Durinho's original opponent, Cowboy fought a practically flawless fight in the first two rounds. The fighter managed to keep the fight going and punished Durinho, who left his left eye badly damaged.

However, the story changed in the last round. Immediately the pupil of Vitor belfort managed to take the fight to the ground, using his cutting-edge jiu-jitsu with pressure. For a good part of the round, Durinho insisted on an omoplata, which was well defended by Cowboy. However, with one minute to go, the athlete applied an armbar, which made his opponent give up.

It was Durinho's third victory in the UFC, having already beaten Andreas Stahl and Christos Giagos. Cowboy debuts with a defeat in the octagon, leaving his record at 10-2.

Amanda runs over Baszler and returns to winning ways

Amanda nunes recovered with style from the defeat suffered by Zingano cat last year. The Brazilian made quick work of dispatching Shayna Baszler, winning by technical knockout in the first round.

Amanda dominated the fight from the start, landing hard blows on Baszler, who clearly felt it. The North American then went after the Brazilian, trying for a takedown, but to no avail. Then, the “Lioness” landed a low kick on Bazler's left knee, who fell to the ground. The victory by technical knockout came at 1min56s.

This was Amanda's third victory in four fights in the UFC; Baszler has put himself in a difficult situation, with two defeats in the octagon and three consecutive setbacks in his career.

TUF Brazil 2 champion wins another with rear naked choke

Leonardo Santos won another one and maintained his unbeaten record in the UFC against Tony Martin. The TUF Brazil 2 champion took a while to apply his game, but, in the second round, he took the fight to the ground and had quick service to get the submission.

As soon as the fight went to the ground, the Brazilian immediately went to mount and then grabbed the North American's back. It was a matter of time for Léo to secure a rear naked choke and finish the fight.

This was Santos' third victory in four fights in the UFC, the other being a draw against Norman Parke. Martin suffers his third defeat in four fights in the octagon.
