After losing the belt, Pettis quotes Muhammad Ali and congratulates Rafael dos Anjos

Anthony Pettis was the big favorite for the main fight of UFC 185, but ended up losing the lightweight belt to Rafael dos Anjos after being completely dominated for five rounds. After the defeat, Pettis went public to comment on the fight and cited the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali to demonstrate his feelings regarding the setback.

“I never thought about losing, but now that it has happened, the only thing is to act correctly. This is my obligation to all the people who believe in me. We all have to suffer defeats in life”, published the fighter on his official profile on Instagram.

Still on social media, Pettis also received a message from his tormentor and responded congratulating him. “Anthony Pettis, it was an honor to share the cage with you. You are an excellent fighter and I have a lot of respect for you”, published the Brazilian. "Congratulations, Rafael dos Anjos, you fought an excellent fight”, wrote the former champion in his reply.

At 28, Anthony Pettis has a professional record of 18 wins and three losses. Former champion of the extinct WEC, Pettis won the UFC lightweight belt in August 2013, against Ben henderson. “Showtime”, as it is known, only defended the title once, against Gilbert Melendez in December last year, before losing it to Rafael dos Anjos.
