Dominant UFC light heavyweight champion for almost four years, Jon Jones He has full confidence that he will be able to extend his reign to the top division. In a press conference organized by Ultimate, “Bones” stated that he believes he has all the necessary weapons to overthrow the current holder of the heavyweight belt, Cain Velazquez.

Jones, who will defend his belt for the ninth time in May, against Anthony Johnson, avoided talking more specifically about a possible move to the top category. However, analyzing Velasquez's game, I would bet on his victory if the long-awaited fight finally takes place.

“I don't know when I'm going to go up in weight. I've already had expectations of moving to heavyweight several times, and, with all due respect to Anthony, I believe I'll win the fight and start having rematches and superfights. But, if I actually go to heavyweight, I believe I have the necessary skills to beat Cain”, commented the light heavyweight champion.

Despite being lighter than Velasquez, Jones believes the size difference would be an important factor in the fight. The light heavyweight champion, for example, is 1,93 m tall, compared to Velasquez's 1,85 m. “Cain is a magnificent opponent. The main reason I believe I would beat Cain is his size. He's not one of those big heavyweights who's going to be heavier than me and be stronger than me on every occasion. He’s a guy I can compete with,” said Jones.

Velasquez, in turn, will make his third title defense in June, at UFC 188, when he will face the Brazilian Fabricio Werdum in Mexico City.
