The two biggest representatives of women's MMA have won their fights in devastating fashion in recent days. On Friday (27), at Invicta 11, the Brazilian knocked out Charmaine Tweet in just 46 seconds, retaining the organization's featherweight (up to 66 kg) belt. The following day, at UFC 184, Rousey submitted Zingano cat in an incredible 14 seconds to remain the champion of the bantamweight division (up to 61 kg).
According to Cyborg's manager, George Prajin, his plans include a fight between the two towards the end of the year. This is because the Brazilian must lose the 5 kg difference between the featherweight and bantamweight categories. Cyborg has been confirmed to fight at Invicta 13, on July 10th, and after that she will begin the weight cutting process.
“The fight in July will definitely happen at featherweight. We need to do this [weight cutting] the right way. She will lose around one and a half kilos in the summer [between June and September], and then hit 61 kg in the autumn [between September and December]. After that, we could fight Ronda at the end of the year. That would be OK”, said the businessman, in an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “ESPN”.
Despite giving no guarantees that this will happen, Prajin made it clear that he wants to prevent negotiations between Cyborg and Rousey from resembling what happened between boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, who will face each other in May this year after several years of unsuccessful negotiations. “We don’t want to repeat the situation between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, where this took 10 years to happen, after both had left their peaks. We want both of them to be in top form, so that this can be considered one of the best fights in the history of the sport.”
