After 16 days, Anderson Silva finally broke the silence. Without speaking out publicly since the day it was announced that he had been caught in a surprise doping test before UFC 183, Spider chose social media to vent in the early hours of this Friday (20). In a long publication, Anderson denied having used illegal substances and left the hypothesis that the positive results could have something to do with the medications he took to recover from the fracture in his left leg.

“I don't know what to apologize for, as I'm still waiting for the results of the tests and the analysis of the doctors and specialists who are working to reveal the truth. All the medications I have taken since my fracture are being analyzed. I seek the truth as much as everyone who was surprised by the published results. In my eighteen-year career, I have never had any problems with exams. I always played fair. I’ve never been a cheater,” Spider wrote on his official profile on Instagram.

In another section, Spider reinforced that he had never used illegal substances and said he was most interested in clarifying the case. “I have never used any substance to increase my performance in fights. I love what I do and would never jeopardize what took me so long to build. I think the rush that some people have to condemn me is unfair. The time it takes to destroy a reputation is infinitely less than the time it takes to build it. I'm most interested in clarifying this episode. I want those who have always supported me to know that I continue to fight so that all the shadows surrounding this sad episode are dispelled”, he assured.

On February 3rd, a few days after winning Nick Diaz at UFC 183, it was announced that Anderson Silva had tested positive for the anabolic steroids drostanolone and androsterone in a surprise anti-doping test carried out on January 9th. A second examination, carried out on the 19th of the same month, did not show any trace of illegal substances. In the post-fight examination, however, Anderson tested positive again for anabolic steroids and, in addition, also for two anxiolytics, Oxazepam and Temazepam, medicines generally used to combat insomnia and sleep disorders.

A final decision on the case will be made at a disciplinary hearing at the Nevada Athletic Commission, with no official date yet, but which should take place in March. If found guilty by the regulatory body, Anderson could be fined part of his earnings, see victory over Nick Diaz be reversed into a "No Contest” (fight without result) and receive a suspension of nine months or more.

I won't say anything about who I am or what I did and went through until I got here.

PUBLICITY:

What matters to me now is the respect of those who have accompanied me to this point in my career. I bled, suffered and fought because I love and because I always wanted to honor and defend the flag of the country that I love so much.

I don't know what to apologize for, as I'm still waiting for the results of the tests and the analysis of the doctors and specialists who are working to reveal the truth.

PUBLICITY:

Inside and outside the octagon, I never wavered in respect for the principles that have always guided me. With great honor and dignity I defended my country wherever I fought. I have never used any substance to increase my performance in fights. I love what I do and would never jeopardize what took me so long to build.
