The series of doping cases involving big names in MMA, including that of the former Brazilian champion Anderson Silva, made the direction of Ultimate move. The organization has called a press conference this Wednesday afternoon (18), starting at 16pm (Brasília time) in which it will comment on the episodes and announce measures to combat the use of illegal substances in sport.

In just one week, four important athletes in the world of MMA tested positive in anti-doping tests, three of them in the UFC. Are they: Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz, Hector Lombard and Jon Fitch – the latter, who previously played in Ultimate, but now plays for WSOF. With the exception of Diaz, who was caught using a recreational drug, the others showed traces of performance-enhancing substances (or PEDs) in their bodies.

Although it is not new to the sport, the volume of cases, and especially the weight of the names involved, made the topic dominate even the non-specialized news when it comes to MMA. In a recent interview, president Dana White assured that “a lot of bad things are going to happen” and anticipated what should be discussed at the press conference. “We're not going to talk about fun things, we're going to talk about what's been happening recently, what we're going to do and what's going to happen from now on”, he guaranteed.
