One of the biggest fights of all time in MMA was closer to happening than you might think. Before all the controversy involving the doping case of Anderson Silva, a superfight against the Brazilian was offered by UFC president Dana White to the former welterweight champion Georges St Pierre. The revelation was made by the Canadian himself.

“Dana White messaged me to see if I would be interested in facing Anderson Silva in Montreal (at UFC 186), before all this (the Spider doping case) happened. I said no. Then everything happened, and it was very ugly. A fight against Anderson wouldn't interest me, but Ed Soares (the Brazilian's manager) said something to the press and made people speculate about it. I never say never, but this is not the time. I'm not interested right now as I'm focused on other things. I took some time and I’m very happy now,” said GSP, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.

Furthermore, St. Pierre also spoke about the possibility of returning to MMA. The Canadian did not deny that he feels the desire to return to the octagon, but stressed that he would only make such a decision when changes to the anti-doping policy occur. “I'm busy with other projects right now, but I'm not going to lie that I feel the need to come back. When I watch the big UFC fights, I feel more like coming back. But I took some time off from competing because I was exhausted from so much pressure and expectations. I needed to maintain my mental stability. Now, I can do some movements after knee surgery. I'm not saying I'm going to fight again, but I'm not interested in competing again if the sport isn't clean. This is one of the big concerns I have,” he concluded.
