The information was confirmed by McGregor himself, during a question and answer session before the UFC 183 weigh-in, on the same stage as his duel against the Brazilian. the duel between José Aldo e Conor McGregor has been anticipated for a long time, ever since the spotlight on the Irishman intensified. On January 18th, in Boston, McGregor beat Dennis Siver and qualified to face the Brazilian. Shortly after the triumph, Conor jumped over the bars of the octagon and went towards Aldo in the stands, only to then start shouting and trying to intimidate his rival.

At the time, at the press conference after the event, UFC president Dana White even stated that the featherweight title fight would take place in May, at UFC 187. However, in recent days, the Irishman and his team had already indicated that a change in the date would happen, and White himself commented that the most likely duel for May is the light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones e Anthony Johnson.
