Going through a difficult time within the UFC, with four defeats in his last five fights, Mauritius Shogun will be able to breathe new air soon. The fighter's manager, Eduardo Alonso, expressed his desire to have the Curitiba native's next fight at a catchweight, which would serve as preparations for an eventual change from light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) to middleweight (up to 84 kg). ).

Alonso believes that Shogun should test the weight cut at least once in a fight with 88 kg, as happened with Wanderlei Silva e Vitor belfort (who faced Rich Franklin at this weight in 2009), and even suggested an opponent: the Englishman Michael Bisping. “I would really like Shogun to fight at a catchweight, whoever it is. I've even suggested some ideas for opponents to the UFC. I would like him to fight at 195 lb (88 kg), as was done with Wanderlei and Vitor belfort before they lose weight. It would be a test to see how Maurício feels, whether the weight loss would be cool, whether his performance would be better or not. And that would bring motivation to him”, he commented, in an interview with the website “Portal do Vale Tudo”. “If I could choose, I would love for him to have this fight against Michael Bisping. He now has a fight scheduled for April, so it’s fruitless to make that kind of imagination.”

Bisping faces CB Dollaway at UFC 186 on April 25. Despite the commitment, the Englishman accepted Alonso's proposal right away. “I heard that Shogun's manager is interested in a fight with me at a catchweight of 88 kg. After my next fight, I’m in!”, he wrote on his Twitter account.
