According to the official police report, Herman, who fought in Ultimate between 2011 and 2013, resisted arrest aggressively after a police chase, which allegedly began due to the fact that the fighter was traveling at high speed on a road in the state. from Indiana, in the United States.

However, Madeleine, who accompanied her husband in the car with the couple's newborn son, tells a different version. According to her, the car they were traveling in began to have problems, so the vehicle's hazard lights were immediately activated. They then began to be chased by police officers, who asked for the car to be parked.

According to her, Herman was looking for a safe place to park thinking about his son, as it was very cold in the area. Thus, the fighter only managed to pull over a few kilometers further, at a gas station. As soon as he got out of the car, the athlete asked the police if he could help them.

The guards then aggressively asked the fighter to kneel, turn his back and put his hands on his head – otherwise the electroshock weapon would be activated. The fighter, as required by North American law, asked for three forms of identification from the police officers, since, according to his wife, he did not feel comfortable with “strange, armed men” approaching his son. The police then use the electroshock weapon.

Next, Madeleine repeated her husband's request for three different forms of identification. The officer, however, only provides two, saying that she would not show her third, her driver's license, because her home address would appear. He adds by arguing that he is in uniform – which does not convince the woman, who says that anyone could acquire a police uniform.

Finally, the wife explains that the episode brought Herman charges of resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer (which, according to her, happens whenever a stun gun is used) and endangering a dependent family member.

At 30 years old, Dave Herman has a professional record of 22 wins and six losses. The heavyweight became known to the Brazilian public after starting an intense rivalry with the Brazilian Rodrigo Minotauro before the duel between them at UFC Rio 3. After spending the weeks leading up to the fight criticizing Minotauro and jiu-jitsu, Herman ended up submitting the legendary former champion with an armbar.
