Wanderlei Silva: “I think Shogun won the fight”

In the final phase of his recovery to return to the octagon, Wanderlei Silva contested the result of the fight between Lyoto Machida e Mauricio Shogun, valid for the Ultimate light heavyweight belt. For Wand, his former teammate, Mauricio Shogun He was victorious in the fight.

“I think Shogun won the fight, he should be the champion now,” Wanderlei said by phone from his gym in Las Vegas to the English website Fight Only Magazine. “He attacked more, he was more effective. Machida wasn’t attacking and didn’t do enough to win,” Wand added.

The former Pride champion believes that the current system with referees from the Athletic Commission and who are not based on MMA needs reforms for the good of the sport and the athletes.

“We need the system to change, to protect the fighters and avoid situations like the one at the last event. It's very complicated for your psychology when you lose a decision like this. Shogun should be the new champion. We need a better selection, both of referees and of the methods to be applied”, concluded Silva.

Fatal change? Makhachev ignores warning and could end tragically at welterweight!
