Jon Jones passes drug test at UFC 182 and is not suspended for cocaine case

It was cheaper than expected and the North American Jon Jones you can breathe a sigh of relief. The UFC announced, late Saturday night (17), that the light heavyweight champion passed the post-fight test against Daniel Cormier and is free from any suspension.

The fighter only received a fine of US$25, approximately R$65,5, for having been caught for cocaine use in preliminary exams before UFC 182. If he had been caught again for using cocaine or any other substance prohibited by athletic commissions, Jones would have lost the belt and received a suspension of up to 24 months.

Through an official statement, Ultimate revealed that the fine to Jones was due to the fact that the fighter had violated the Athletes' Code of Conduct and that all the money will be donated to the drug prevention program.

The UFC announced this Saturday that the light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is fined US$25 for violating the organization's Athlete Code of Conduct. Jones was caught in an anti-doping test carried out outside the fight period by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NSAC) on December 4, 2015. The US$25 will be donated to prevention programs for the use of toxic and narcotic substances.

Understand the case

Caught in an anti-doping test carried out on December 4th with benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite of cocaine, Jon Jones was kept on the UFC 182 card, in which he faced Daniel Cormier, because this is not a substance banned by the International Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) outside the competition period.

On January 3rd, at the MGM Grand Garden, Jones won Daniel Cormier by unanimous decision of the judges after five very busy rounds and retained his belt for the eighth consecutive time, a record in the light heavyweight category. With the triumph, “Bones”, as he is known, also remained at the top of the weight-for-weight ranking, which does not take categories into account.
