A few weeks ago, Dominick Cruz was in Brazil to participate in promotional events for UFC Barueri, in São Paulo. At that time, the fighter had already torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, although this had not yet become public knowledge.

During a press conference, when asked by SUPER FIGHTS Regarding the serious injuries that had kept him away from the Octagon for almost three years, between 2011 and 2014, Cruz responded categorically. The fighter, who returned from time away with a stunning victory over Takeya Mizugaki in September, stated that he feels psychologically prepared to deal with any setbacks and guaranteed that the injuries will make him even stronger.
“I'm in a sport where, every day, your training partner's goal is to hurt you. So, I had to see it realistically”, he commented. “We can get hurt at any time and we have to keep that in mind. I can handle anything that happens to me, and I don't do it arrogantly. I say this so that I will be prepared the way I need to be for any situation and be successful, because I have no choice. The main objective of all this is to evolve, improve. Injuries only serve to make me better”, said the fighter.
Cruz will undergo knee surgery in mid-January and hopes to return to fights in 2015.
