UFC announces Caio Monstro x Mark Muñoz, but Brazilian withdraws from the fight soon after

Brazilian will undergo surgery after successive problems with tooth extraction and should only return in March 2015

For a few hours during the night of this Thursday (11), the Brazilian Gaius Monster was Mark Muñoz's next opponent at UFC 184. The duel between Caio and Muñoz was announced by the Ultimate organization for the event on February 28, 2015, but the Brazilian himself said he was unable to perform on the date and afterwards gave up the fight.

“Unfortunately, I won't be able to fight. I pulled a tooth before my last fight and got an infection. After the fight, I had other teeth pulled out and had a lot of swelling, so I'm having surgery next week to correct that. I'll probably lose part of the bone around my teeth”, said the Brazilian, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

Despite the medical problem, Caio guaranteed that he will be ready to return to the octagon at the end of the first quarter of next year and made himself available to the UFC for a possible rescheduling of the duel against Muñoz himself. “I will be able to fight again at the end of March. I will be 100% ready to fight Mark Muñoz or whoever the UFC wants,” he assured.

UFC 184 takes place on February 28th at the Stapples Center in Los Angeles (USA). In the main fight of the night, Vitor belfort challenges Chris Weidman for the middleweight belt. In the co-main fight, the muse Ronda Rousey puts its title on the line against the also undefeated Zingano cat. So far, the event management has not announced the Brazilian's replacement or even whether Mark Muñoz will remain on the schedule.
