For the vast majority of professional MMA fighters, winning a UFC belt, no matter who they are against and regardless of the circumstances, is their biggest goal. Current number one in the light heavyweight rankings, the Swede Alexander Gustafson is not part of this group. After being defeated in the “Fight of the Year 2013” in a very fierce way by the champion Jon Jones, Gustafsson revealed his support for the executioner in the fight against Daniel Cormier on January 3rd, but only because he wants to take the title from his rival in the future.

“I personally want the Jon Jones win, because I want to fight him. If I were to take someone's belt, it would be Jones', not Jones'. Daniel Cormier”, said the Swede, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”. Gustafsson, however, praised Cormier and did not rule out the challenger's chances of emerging victorious. “Well, I consider DC to be a great athlete and a great person, so it would be great to see him win too, because that would mess things up a bit. He’s a great fighter,” he assessed.
At 27, Alexander Gustafson has a professional record of 16 wins and two losses. The Swede would have a rematch against Jon Jones in September this year, but ended up getting injured and was replaced by Daniel Cormier as a challenger. Now, just three weeks after the fight between Jones and Cormier at UFC 182, Gustafsson faces the American Anthony Johnson at home in the main fight of UFC on FOX 14, which takes place in the city of Stockholm.
