The UFC featherweight category is at an impasse regarding the next challenger for the belt, currently in the hands of José Aldo. On the one hand, there are those who argue that it would be time to Frankie Edgar fight for the title, as the former lightweight champion is on a good winning streak and a triumph over Cub swanson. On the other hand, the option would be Conor McGregor, who captured the UFC spotlight with his controversial statements and who could win his fifth fight in a row against Dennis Siver, in January.

In the view of Matt Brown, fifth in the welterweight rankings, the question is simple. For him, the Irishman didn't do enough to match Edgar and compete for the title. “I don’t even believe this is being discussed. What the hell has Conor ever done compared to what Frankie did? Frankie deserves a title shot. Period”, said Brown, in an interview with the podcast “The Great MMA Debate”.

Brown is not opposed to McGregor's controversial stance, but believes that the factor should not be taken into question when appointing a challenger. “I don't hate it. Congratulations to him. But when we're talking about title fights, the opportunity of a man's lifetime, you need to rely on realistic statistics and facts. You can’t base this on the fact that the bastard speaks and sells more tickets,” he considered.
