Nick Diaz says he does not intend to attack Anderson Silva's fractured leg

The North American said he has avoided capitalizing on opponents' injuries in the past, but said he would act differently in the face of a cut in the eye region

The Brazilian Anderson Silva spent the entire year of 2014 recovering from the serious fracture suffered in his left leg in the rematch against Chris Weidman. During the period, Anderson commented several times on the progress of improvement in the region and responded about his concern about the injured area becoming a disadvantage during the fight. However, if it depends on your opponent when you return to the octagon Nick Diaz, Spider can rest assured about that. In an interview, Diaz assured that he does not intend to exploit the leg fractured by his opponent about a year ago.

“When someone tells you that a fighter is injured and they tell you to go after an injury, it really confuses you and misleads you. It would be sad to lose a fight for this reason and are you trying to focus on capitalizing on someone's weakness when they come off an injury or something like that, rather than having your fight and not worrying about something like that?" controversial North American, in a recent press conference to promote the duel against Anderson.

Without mentioning names, Diaz also recalled a fight in which he failed to attack his rival's injured knee. “I fought with a guy a long time ago and they told me that his knee was injured and that I should attack the injured area. And I was like: 'Yes, of course, I'm not going to attack this guy's knee'”, said the Californian, who, however, pointed out a caveat to his code of conduct. “It is not realistic to try to attack an injury, unless it is a cut suffered in the same week. Then I'll hit you in the eye, because it will open again and you wouldn't fight with that cut. Maybe in a cut you want to take advantage, that makes sense”, he added.

Under the commitment of avoiding attacking the opponent's fractured leg, but paying attention to possible cuts in the eye region to exploit, Nick Diaz faces Anderson Silva on January 31st, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas (USA). The duel, which is the main fight of UFC 183, marks the return of both the Brazilian and the North American to the octagon. While Spider was recovering from the injury suffered in December 2013, Diaz had announced his early retirement in March of the same year.
