Frankie Edgar dominates Swanson and challenges José Aldo for the belt: 'If he doesn't come to me, I'll come to him'

Sovereign in the fight, former lightweight champion taught MMA and dominated the hitherto number 2 in the ranking

Frankie Edgar x Cub Swasonthe american Frankie Edgar showed why he deserves a new chance to challenge the Brazilian José Aldo for the featherweight belt (up to 66 kg.). The former lightweight champion (up to 70 kg.) dominated the hard Cub swanson for five rounds and at the end of the fight he finished with a rear naked choke. What's more, he didn't miss the opportunity and assured that he wants a rematch against José Aldo, who already beat him in a tight duel in February 2013.

The fight between Edgar and Swason was the main attraction of UFC Fight Night 57, an event held in the early hours of this Sunday (23), in Austin, Texas. At second most important fight of the night, the brazilian Edson Barboza also shone. The country's only representative at the show overcame the North American's provocations Bobby Green to win the unanimous decision of the judges and, finally, enter the top-10 of the lightweight ranking (know how it was).

The first round started evenly with Edgar using his speed to enter the range of action and Swason always responding to the attacks and releasing powerful blows, which most of the time went empty. But the balance only lasted for the first five minutes.

From the second round onwards, Edgar continued using his speed, but attacking Cub's feathers and taking the fight to the ground. Sovereign on the ground, the North American evolved in his positions and landed several strikes from above.

The story repeated itself in the following parts: Frankie taking down and Cub fighting to stay alive in the fight. After almost ending the duel with a technical knockout in the fourth round, Edgar won in the fifth.

Already worn out by the amount of blows he received, Cub Swason was dominated in the last round. After taking the contest to the ground again, Frankie went to try for the submission. He tried with a guillotine and then with katagatame, blows well defended by a tough rival. But after striking his rival, Edgar opened up space, reached his back and locked in the rear naked choke with four seconds to go.

At the end of the fight, Frankie Edgar did not miss the opportunity to challenge the Brazilian José Aldo, owner of the featherweight belt. “If Aldo doesn't come, I'll go after him. This is just the beginning. Cub is a very tough guy, but I want to finish the fights however I can. I’m working hard for this”, said Edgar still in the Octagon.
