UFC confirms fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Johnson at stadium in Sweden

The fight will take place in January and should define a challenger for the UFC light heavyweight belt

The UFC confirmed the fight between tops light heavyweight Alexander Gustafson e Anthony Johnson for January 24th, in the main attraction of a Fight Night event that will be held in the city of Stockholm, capital of Sweden.

The attraction will be held at the Tele2 Arena stadium, which has the capacity to receive more than 30 thousand fans. If the event has a full house, it should be the second largest audience in UFC history, only behind event number 129, in 2011, which was seen by 55 thousand people in Toronto, Canada.

Furthermore, the organization confirmed that the winner of the fight will be challenged for the category belt. Gustafsson, ranked first in the division, was eager for the event. “This will be an epic event. I want more than 30 thousand fans to come and witness my victory on January 24th. Then, I will win the title. My journey back to the top starts now”, said the Swede, who is coming off a victory over Jimi Manuwa in March.

Johnson, third in the weight class, highlighted that he will not feel intimidated by the presence of the mass of fans in favor of his rival. “The fight will be at his house, but I'm ready to go to Sweden and prove that I'm next in line for the light heavyweight belt. I'm not intimidated by fighting in front of Alex's fans. I'm going to look for the knockout like I do in all my fights. I can’t wait for it,” said the American.

Whoever stands out in the fight in Sweden will face the winner of the next fight for the belt, which will be between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier on January 3rd, in Las Vegas (USA).
