On December 13th, Rousimar Toquinho will make his first WSOF title defense against fellow former UFC fighter Jon Fitch. Despite the North American having a very positive record against Brazilian fighters, Toquinho guaranteed that he will return home as the organization's champion.
In his long career in MMA, Fitch has already surpassed Brazilians Marcelo Alfaya, Erick silva, Thiago Pitbull (twice), Paulo thiago, Roan Jucão, having lost only to Wilson Gouveia and Demian Maia. Confident in his current phase, Toquinho guarantees that he will win the 17th victory of his career.
“I expect victory and that’s what will happen. No matter what way it is, I am ready for any situation. I've been training hard to face Jon Fitch, I know his qualities, but I'm going to do my best. It will be my first title defense and I feel excited about it. I want to return to Brazil with the title. I know I'm in the best phase of my career and I'm going to prove it”, said the Brazilian fighter, who won the title in March by submitting Steve Carl.
Although Fitch is a fighter with a history that is difficult to finish or knock out, Toquinho is confident that the fight will not come to a decision. “I'm going to finish. I have other strategies, I have been training my striking very hard and I am increasingly confident to face any opponent and seek my first knockout. I owe a lot to Erivan Conceição [boxing coach], he has dedicated a lot of time to helping me and this has been great for me,” he said.
