Ovince St Preux had an interesting experience this week when he discovered that he would face the former light heavyweight champion Mauritius Shogun in a space of just over a week. However, anyone who thinks that the North American was scared by the news is mistaken – in fact, he sees the chance as a great opportunity to stand out within the UFC.
St. Preux, who was already preparing to face Francimar Bodão in the co-main fight of UFC Uberlândia, was called up at the last minute to replace Jimi Manuwa, Shogun's original opponent, who suffered a broken foot and was forced to leave the fight.
“The opportunity in itself to be able to face him is a blessing. When you face a legend and beat a legend, you may end up becoming one yourself. Shogun has been in the sport since before I even thought about starting to fight. It was unexpected, but it's good news”, celebrated St. Preux, in an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
St. Preux tries to recover from a defeat suffered by Ryan bader in August, when he had a performance considered apathetic by many. However, “OSP” said he learned from the setback. “I tell people that if you're on a good winning streak, you start to get relaxed. If you should work to evolve ten things, you end up focusing on just two or three. This happened to me”, he says.
The fight between Mauritius Shogun e Ovince St Preux will be the main attraction at UFC Fight Night Uberlândia, on November 8th.
