Attacking from commentator, Lyoto Machida made another prediction for an important fight that will take place in the UFC in the coming months. After giving your guesses to Chris Weidman x Vitor belfort, the former light heavyweight champion analyzed the fight between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier, who will win the belt in the 93 kg division at the beginning of next year.
Knowing the champion's game closely, having been defeated by him in 2011, Lyoto believes that Jones will achieve another successful defense against the undefeated Cormier. “I think Jones keeps the belt. Cormier is a great fighter, but the marriage of the fight is not very favorable to him, with the issue of his wingspan. Cormier has very solid wrestling, but if you look at the scenario as a whole from a technical point of view, I don't see him winning”, he said, in an interview with the North American website “Sherdog”.
However, Machida sees an unusual situation in the light heavyweight division, as he believes that the three main names in the category (Jones, Cormier and Alexander Gustafson) can take turns in weight hegemony. “I believe that Gustafsson, who is taller and has a larger wingspan, could make Jones' life a lot more difficult. But then I see Cormier as a bad match for Gustafsson. It’s all about the marriage of styles,” he said.
The duel between Jones and Cormier will be the main attraction of UFC 182, which will take place on January 3 in Las Vegas (USA). Machida returns to the octagon shortly before, on December 20th, against CB Dollaway at UFC Barueri.
