When Anderson Silva fractured his leg on December 28, 2013 in the rematch against Chris Weidman, many considered the Brazilian fighter's career to be over. That's why the way Spider recovered in record time and already secured his return to the Octagon for January 31, 2015 was so surprising. However, despite being cured, Anderson himself revealed that he suffers some consequences from the injury, especially the limitation of certain movements.

“When I had the injury, several things went through my head. Firstly, I'm already in the 'twenties' phase (close to 40 years old), right? Then it gets a little complicated (laughs). I was very apprehensive, I thought I wouldn't fight again. Fabiano (Bastos, physiotherapist) is following my recovery, and we are seeing the strength deficit that the leg had. It's not very easy. I confess that I was somewhat apprehensive. I’m not able to do some of the things I used to do”, said Spider, in an interview given during a lecture at a medical conference.

Then, Anderson mentioned one of the movements that has been made difficult by the situation with his left leg. “The injury is over. But there is still a block in the type of movement I perform during fight training. We are working on this so that I can return to my normal activities and do what I did before properly. I'm still a little insecure. In takedown defense training, for example, I use my leg, knee and hip a lot,” he commented.

At 39, Anderson Silva has a professional record of 33 wins and six losses. With a new contract for another 15 fights with Ultimate, Anderson returns to the Octagon on January 31st, in the superfight against the North American Nick Diaz in the main fight of UFC 183. Even though he hasn't fought for about a year, Spider remains in first place in the middleweight category and in seventh place in the weight-for-weight rankings, regardless of division.
