Conor McGregor he may have to wait to fight for the UFC featherweight belt even if he beats Dennis Siver in January. Cub swanson, second placed in the official UFC rankings for the under-66 kg division, said he received from Ultimate the guarantee that he will fight for the title if he goes through Frankie Edgar at the end of next month.

Swanson hasn't known what it's like to lose since 2011, when he was submitted by Ricardo Lamas. Since then, the American has won six consecutive victories, four of which were by knockout or technical knockout. Among his victims is Dustin poirier, last defeated by McGregor, and Siver himself, who will face the Irishman in early 2015.

“The UFC has assured me that I am next to fight Aldo as long as I win my fight against Edgar,” Swanson wrote on his Twitter account.

If the fight actually goes ahead, Swanson will have the chance to avenge one of the most devastating defeats of his career. In 2009, still at the WEC event, the North American was defeated in just eight seconds by a flying knee from Aldo, in what is to date his only knockout defeat.
