Vitor belfort has not fought in the UFC for approximately a year, as his last fight was on November 9, 2013 against Dan Henderson, in Goiania. Even so, the veteran Brazilian fighter, next challenger for Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight belt, he assured that he still feels like a beginner and that he continues to evolve.
“I feel like a kid, I feel like I’m part of the new generation too. With me, that’s not the case. The only difference between me and Weidman is that I'm an expensive wine, I've been on the shelf longer. But, in reality, I think that a fighter is a fighter, those who train are preparing themselves”, said Belfort, in a press conference reproduced on the “Combate” channel website.
Your next fight should take place in the second half of February, in Los Angeles (USA), even though nothing has yet been confirmed by the UFC. In any case, Belfort celebrated the choice, as the city was the first he lived in in North America. “Los Angeles is a really cool place in my history, it was the first place I lived there. I think God chose the right place. I am very happy with this news”, he highlighted. “Being able to go back there now, fighting for the belt, is a historic moment. I already feel something very good. Los Angeles is like my home. I have great friends, great memories with Carlson [Gracie, his first coach], I'm happy. But if I were to fight in China, I would be happy too”, he joked.
Belfort was also happy with the recent praise given by his former tormentor Anderson Silva, who named the “Phenomenon” as the most complete athlete in the 84 kg division. “I am very pleased that a champion like Anderson can speak in this way, and for me it is a source of pride to be able to represent my country and give my best every day, evolve every day”, he declared.
