At 39 years old and with eight more fights left on his contract signed in 2013, there were those who suspected that Anderson Silva would not be able to fully fulfill his agreement with the UFC. Now, those who were already afraid have one more reason for their doubts, while fans eager to see Spider in action have another reason to celebrate. That's because, this Monday (27), Anderson himself surprised and revealed that he had expanded his relationship with Ultimate to another 15 fights.

“I had seven more fights in my contract (in addition to the already scheduled duel against Nick Diaz). I was with Lorenzo (Fertitta) and Dana (White) last Thursday and the contract was torn up. We signed for another 15 fights. To drive him crazy, I signed for 15 more fights. And to drive the people at home crazy too”, said Spider, in an interview on the “Combate” channel website.

One of the reasons that raised the most suspicions about full compliance with the previous Anderson Silva with the UFC was the number of fights per year for Spider, who at the time of the previous contract was 38 years old. Today, already a year older, with 15 fights to go and a recent average of two fights per year, Anderson would hypothetically fight until he was 47 years old.

Nike out, Adidas in?

In addition to the change in his agreement with the UFC, Anderson Silva also commented on the possibility of signing with a new supplier of sporting equipment. Contracted with North American Nike since 2012, Spider revealed that he has ended his contract with the brand, which recently also released the light heavyweight champion Jon Jones of its group of athletes, and is currently negotiating with its main competitor: the German Adidas.

“I was once (a Nike athlete). I've always been a fan of Nike and I really like the brand. The company gave me the opportunity to make a dream come true. Thanks to Ronaldo and Corinthians, I had the opportunity to work with the Nike team. It was great, I really liked it. The memories and longing remain. Now we have a great relationship with Adidas. Nothing is certain, and we’ll see what happens from now on”, commented Anderson.

At 39 years old, and now with 15 more professional fights ahead of him, Anderson Silva has a record of 33 wins and six losses. After fracturing his left leg in the rematch against Chris Weidman and spend 2014 recovering, Spider will return to the Octagon on January 31st, against the controversial North American Nick Diaz, in the main fight of UFC 183, in Las Vegas (USA).
