In August 2013, barely José Aldo e Anthony Pettis They didn't face each other for the featherweight belt, but the American ended up leaving the fight a few weeks before it took place due to a knee injury. The desire to promote the duel, however, still seems to remain firmly in the mind of UFC president Dana White. During an interview, the director assured that the confrontation could still happen, but revealed that this depends on the Brazilian's next results.
"If the José Aldo win a few more fights, we can talk about him facing the Anthony Pettis. This fight could actually happen. Anything is possible”, said White to the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
Despite this, the director recalled that the Brazilian has a long waiting list of challengers ahead of him, in a featherweight division that is as populated as it has been in a long time. “The featherweight division is booming right now. It's a great problem to have. 'Oh my God, there are so many guys who can fight for the title!'. That’s a great problem to have,” he joked.
At 28, José Aldo has a professional record of 24 wins and one loss. The only featherweight champion in UFC history, the man from Manaus has an undefeated streak that lasts 17 fights. Already Anthony Pettis, 27 years old, has a record of 17 wins and two losses. “Showtime”, as he is known, won the lightweight title last year and will defend it for the first time on December 6th, when he faces Gilbert Melendez at UFC 181.
