In recent weeks, the Spanish Ilia Topuria has surprised the world with the high confidence that he will dethrone the featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) Alexander Volkanovsky easily in UFC 298. On his YouTube channel, the current Ultimate commentator Daniel Cormier showed respect for the belt challenger and made a comparison between the new European star and the Irishman Conor McGregor, the greatest name in the history of the sport.

“Topuria’s confidence reminds me of McGregor about to fight Aldo. He was so sure that he was going to make it, that you knew if that happened, he would become a star that we've never seen in the UFC or in fighting. When that happened, he went to the moon. I feel like Topuria is shaping up to have that kind of rise if he can deliver on all the promises he's making. It seems like all Topuria wants to do is put pressure on himself. He said he is going to release a film about being champion, he updated his biography on social media with another victory and saying that he is UFC champion, he wants to fight at the Real Madrid stadium in Spain, he said that Volkanovski cannot compete with him. Most people in these circumstances want to ease the pressure, but he doesn’t,” Cormier said.
Undefeated in professional MMA with 14 victories, Topuria will face the biggest challenge of his career in UFC 298, which takes place on February 17th. The Spanish fighter will face the featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovsky, owner of the belt since December 2019. The card will take place at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas (USA).
