O UFC 300, which takes place on April 13, in Las Vegas, promises to be one of the biggest events in the organization's history. And to start off on the right foot, president Dana White announced that the first fight of the night will be between two former champions: Deiveson Figueiredo e cody garbrandt, in the bantamweight category (up to 61,2kg.).
The revelation was made during Super Bowl week, in a series of interviews on Radio Row. White said the card is full of great fights, which could be main events on other occasions. And to show the level of UFC 300, he chose the confrontation between Figueiredo and Garbrandt to open the show.

“We are opening the card. The first preliminary of the night is Garbrandt x Figueiredo, what does that tell you?” White asked the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Deiveson, who was champion until January 2023, when he lost the belt in a fight against Brandon Moreno, moved up a division and debuted with a victory over Rob font, by unanimous decision. The Brazilian, who has 22 triumphs, three setbacks and a draw in MMA, seeks to become the second fighter in the country to win titles in two different categories in the UFC.
Garbrandt, in turn, owned the bantamweight belt between 2016 and 2017, when he won Dominick Cruz. However, after that, he entered a negative phase and lost five of the six fights he had. He recovered in 2023, defeating Trevin Jones e brian kelleher. The North American, who has 14 wins and five losses in MMA, wants to compete again for the title in his category.
The fight between Figueiredo and Garbrandt was scheduled to take place in November 2020, for the flyweight belt, but the American was injured and was replaced by Alex Perez, which ended up finished by the Brazilian. Now, the two will have the chance to face each other in a new division, in one of the most anticipated events of the year.
