As a commentator, Chael Sonnen controlled expectations when dealing with the long-awaited fight between Paulo borrachinha e Robert whittaker No. UFC 298. On his YouTube channel, the analyst admitted that he was waiting for some unforeseen event to cancel the confrontation. According to the veteran, both have not adopted the stance of athletes who seek to promote the clash.

“If I were to just guess, I have a few fights in my life that I heard about and said, 'that fight isn't going to happen.' I love them and I find them exciting, but I feel like it's not going to happen. (…) I'm not trying to jinx the fight between Paulo Costa (Borrachinha) and Robert whittaker. I am not like that. But it doesn’t seem real to me,” said Sonnen.

The commentator even went further. The athlete criticized the stance of the standouts in the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg), questioning the stance of the protagonists with regard to promoting the clash.

“I don’t feel like they’re preparing for a fight. (…) They are not behaving what others do in the same position. (…) They don’t act like two fighters who are going to face each other”, he concluded.
