Amid preparation to try to win the UFC featherweight belt next Saturday (25), at UFC 179, Chad Mendes went through a distraction earlier this week. In an interview with the English television channel “BT Sport”, the challenger exchanged provocations with the fellow featherweight fighter Conor McGregor, who was in the studio.

Mendes, already in Rio de Janeiro for the fight, participated in the program via teleconference. The physical distance did not stop the fighters from exchanging barbs. While the American stated that his style is bad for McGregor, the Irishman adopted a more comical tone, among other provocations, making fun of his rival's height.

PUBLICITY:

Chad Mendes: First of all, Conor, how tall are you, mate?

Conor McGregor: 1,75 metres.

Chad Mendes: OK, I'm 1,67 m.

Conor McGregor: You are at least 1,63 m tall. (audience laughter). You need to stand up so you can appear on the screen.

Chad Mendes: OK. That's the way I see Conor: he's a big talker. Conor has brought so much attention to this category, so much attention from the UFC recently. He talks to fight his way to the top. When I see Conor, I see dollars heading toward my bank account. I'm a horrible fight for this guy. Conor, do you know what wrestling is?

Conor McGregor: I could put my balls on your forehead (audience laughter).

Chad Mendes: When I see this guy, I see dollars going into my bank account. I'm a bad fight for him. If you really want to do it (fight), I'm in.

Conor McGregor: Personally, I wish you all the best. I don't think the fight will be any different compared to the previous fight, but don't worry: I'm going to take that belt from José and I'm going to go hunting for his dwarf head.

Chad Mendes: I hope you bring your leprechauns (Irish folklore character) and watch the fight from the third row.

Conor McGregor: I'll sit in the front row. I won't even be at the fighters' hotel – I'll be staying at the Fertitta hotel, in the suite, in Copacabana. Enjoy your time at the fighters' hotel.

Chad Mendes: Keep talking and we'll meet in the octagon. Whether it's for the title or not, I'm going to break your face.
