Internal and external pressure, due to the recent belt losses of the Kimura-Nova União team and for being the last remaining Brazilian champion in Ultimate, has been a constant topic during the preparation of José Aldo to fight against Chad Mendes at UFC Rio 5, this Saturday (25). However, for Dedé Pederneiras, coach of Nova União, the tension between the opponents is natural, has other sources and will not affect the show at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho.
“I think they both have a lot of desire. Chad for losing and Aldo for being, let's say, upset by the Chad Mendes throughout this training time. So, for sure, the stick will break”, said Dedé, in an interview with the program “Tá na Area”, on the cable channel “SporTV”.
Regarding the fans, Dedé said he believes that the motivation to support the champion at home will speak louder than any type of pressure for the result. “The fans will all be on our side, putting maximum pressure and we will come out with the victory. Chad improved his standing a lot, Aldo gained a lot more experience than he had before. I mean, he fought with big names, remained undefeated, so I think everyone made their adjustments in what they think could make a difference in this fight”, he commented.
This Saturday (25), José Aldo e Chad Mendes duel for the featherweight title in the main fight of UFC 179, also known as UFC Rio 5. In the co-main fight of the night, the former light heavyweight title challenger Glover Teixeira faces the North American Phil Davis.
