About to try for the second time to win the UFC featherweight belt, Chad Mendes sentenced: the time of José Aldo with the category title is finished.

The North American is confident that the evolution of his game since the first time they faced each other, in 2012, has made him the most capable athlete in the 66 kg division. “I think I've already caught up and surpassed him. I truly believe it's my turn. We've been seeing his reign for a while, but I've studied him, I've fought with him. I really believe it’s my turn”, said Mendes, in an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.

The challenger believes that the changes faced in the champion's life will be decisive for the outcome of the fight. “He just got married and recently had a son. These two things take up a lot, a lot of time. Before he would spend extra hours at the gym, but now he rushes home to be with his wife and son. Those hours he misses are hours I spend at the gym,” he explained.

Aldo and Mendes will have their long-awaited rematch in the main fight of UFC 179, which will take place on October 25th at the Maracanãzinho gym, in Rio de Janeiro.
