One of the longest soap operas in world boxing, the superfight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, may finally have a positive outcome. The guarantor is Floyd Mayweather Sr., father of the undefeated American boxer. In an interview, Mayweather said that he did not talk to his son about the matter, but assured that the pair will star in “the biggest fight ever”.

“I'm sure he will catch Pacquiao, that will happen. This fight will happen. Believe me. This fight will definitely happen. This is the fight for the world, man, right here. It's the biggest fight ever done in life, so, like I told you, this fight will happen. I'm telling you now, he never told me the fight will happen, but I'm telling you, it will happen. Mark my words”, the boxer’s father told the website “Fight Hype”.

Mayweather's father's statement is in line with what has been said by Pacquiao's team. A few days ago, the promoter of the Filipino fighter, Bob Arum, declared that it is likely that the fight will be held in the first months of 2015. Despite statements in line with the fight being held on both sides, negotiations for the superfight to take place have not officially advanced.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., 37 years old, has a professional boxing record of 47 victories. Manny Pacquiao, 35 years old, has a professional record of 56 wins, five losses and two draws. Two of the biggest names in boxing in recent years, “Money” and “Pacman”, as they are known, have always found themselves in the midst of strong speculation about a hypothetical superfight between them, but the duel never got off the ground and lost momentum after two the Filipino's recent defeats – to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Márquez. However, the buzz intensified again in light of Mayweather's imminent retirement, who has already announced that he will only have two more fights before hanging up his gloves.
