Willing to show up at the last minute UFC Las Vegas 83, Anthony Smith paid dearly for his choice and ended up being knocked out by Khalil Rountree Jr. in the third round. Despite being known for his resistance during fights, the athlete accumulated damage throughout the confrontation until he was hit hard and forced the referee to stop the fight.

In search of getting closer to chance to face Alex Poatán for the belt, Smith exuded confidence for the duel and ignored his status as an underdog for the duel. Despite his experience, the American was unable to surprise his rival with grappling and succumbed to the power of Rountree Jr in the stand-up punching department.

On the other hand, Khalil lived up to his favorite position, ignored the pressure of facing a former challenger for the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg) and now lives with the expectation of entering the top 10 of the category. At the end of the confrontation, the North American took the opportunity to politely ask for a fight against Alex Poatán. Despite the challenge, the athlete has not received any answers from the champion so far.

At 35 years old, Smith suffered 19 career setbacks and a fourth knockout defeat during his career with the organization. Former title challenger, 'Coração de Leão' has not had two consecutive victories since 2021.
