Amanda Nunes starts well, but loses to Zingano; Dominick Cruz makes an impressive comeback at UFC 178

The fighter, who lost the chance to compete for the UFC women's belt due to an injury, had to live shortly after with the suicide of her husband, Brazilian Maurício Zingano. In her first fight after the fatalities, Cat also had to overcome an overwhelming start from the Brazilian Amanda nunes to turn the fight around and win by technical knockout in the third round.

The fight between Amanda and Zingano opened the main card of UFC 178, an event held this Saturday night (28), in Las Vegas. In another highlight of the preliminary matches, Dominick Cruz He showed that the long time away from the Octagon didn't matter and that he can return to his reign in the bantamweight division by knocking out Takeya Mizugaki in just one minute.

Amanda starts well, but falls to Zingano

Known for her takedown skills, Zingano was surprised by Amanda nunes and fell short in the ground fight. The Brazilian had to defend herself from an armbar, but, after stabilizing her position, she applied several blows from above to her rival.

Amanda took the lead in the round and only lost her superior position after trying to end the fight with a leg lock.

In the second round, however, Zingano began to change the story of the fight. With Amanda nunes Visibly tired, the North American dominated the Bahian athlete's neck and applied a beautiful sacrifice takedown. On top, Cat applied blows and tied the fight.

With one round for each fighter, the third round would be responsible for defining the winner. And it was Zingano cat who managed to stand out.

Dominick Cruz doesn't feel like time stands still and runs over Japanese

Not even the three years away from the Octagon weighed on him. Dominick Cruz. The former bantamweight champion showed that he is fully recovered from his knee injury and is fully capable of regaining the title in the under-62 kg division – a title that was taken from him after he was away from competition since 2011. Against Takeya Mizugaki, the 'Dominator' lived up to his nickname and needed just 61 seconds to knock out the Japanese.

As soon as the fight started, Cruz showed his already well-known movement to confuse his opponent. Mizugaki tried to work with counter strikes, but they all went blank. Dominick feinted with hand strikes and came in with a clear takedown.

On the ground, the former champion placed the Japanese against the bars, trapped one of Mizugaki's arms and with an arsenal of punches forced referee Chris Tognoni to declare a technical knockout.
