After the harsh defeat suffered by Dricus Du Plessis No. UFC 290, New Zealander Robert Whitakker expressed on his social networks the date and ideal opponent for his return to the octagon. On his Instagram, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) published a record of his training and tagged the Brazilian Paulo borrachinha, suggesting a possible duel between them in the UFC 299, scheduled for March 09, 2024.

“Let’s try again,” Whittaker wrote on Instagram.
Former middleweight champion, Robert suffered his first defeat in the division against a fighter who did not have the name Israel adesanya. On UFC 290, the New Zealander succumbed to the momentum and good performance of the South African Dricus Du Plessis and was brutally knocked out in the second round. In 11 years with the organization, Whittaker stepped into the Octagon 20 times, winning 15 victories and suffering five defeats.
Marked by his infrequent presence inside the octagon, Borrachinha has not fought since August 2022 when he beat the veteran Luke Rockhold by points in UFC 278. The Brazilian would face the star Khamzat Shimaev last October, however, he suffered a serious elbow infection that prevented him from attending the Abu Dhabi (UAE) card.
